Sadly, pets that people have adopted or brought during the COVID shutdown  Are being returned in record number according to a New York Post article! Shelters have been asking for help because pets are coming in at record numbers and many sadly have to be killed. When pets are adopted and returned to kill shelters they are fast-tracked to the kill list! There have been instances where owners have just dumped their pets on the streets and they are brought into the shelters as stray's and quickly put on kill lists!

Our companion pets deserved more than to be discarded like an old pair of shoes, newspaper, or trash! Sadly, after they are killed in shelters that is what happens, they were thrown into black garbage bags and dumped in landfills! Adoption and pet ownership should be for life!

Our pets give us unconditional love and devotion. Many have saved us from harm often risking their own lives to do so! Please do not abandon your pets, abuse, or neglect them or dump them to be killed; They are living, breathing, and deeply feeling beings! They matter, and they deserve to be humanely loved in forever homes! Remember to #Adoptdontshop and adoption is for life!

New York Post article is below please take the time to read it:! This is a serious and urgent problem that we need to address!

Pet owners who adopted during the pandemic are reportedly beginning to ditch their animals at shelters now that COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted and workers are returning to the office.

“We’re starting to see now what we think will be a longer-term trend of some of those pandemic pets, if you want to call them that, starting to be given up,” Peter Laurie, who is chief executive of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London, told Bloomberg Quicktake.

The number of dogs and cats returned to the shelter has doubled over the last few months — and it’s only expected to get worse.

“I think that’s going to happen as people gradually returned to offices, start thinking about taking holidays as well. I think very sadly we’re going to see [people] returning their dogs and cats because a lot of people bought puppies early in the pandemic,” he told the outlet.

“Those puppies will have grown into adult dogs now. Some of those behaviors may be becoming a little bit more challenging [and] now people may be thinking now it’s getting too difficult so sadly, I think we’re gonna see an upturn.”

The shelter said it had seen a similar trend during the 2008 recession — and job losses have also played a role again this time around.
